Convert characters to/from HTML entities.
| & | & | < | < | > | > |
| " | " | ' | ' | | (space) |
This converter escapes text so it can sit safely inside HTML, and turns HTML entities back into readable characters. Decoding uses your browser's own parser, so it recognizes every entity a browser does, and nothing leaves the page. A small reference table under the tool lists the entities you meet most often: &, <, >, ", ' and .
Encode escapes the five characters that can break markup: the ampersand, the less-than and greater-than signs, double quotes (as ") and apostrophes (as the numeric '). That makes the output safe both in element text and inside quoted attribute values. It leaves accented letters, symbols such as ©, emoji and non-breaking spaces untouched, which is fine on a UTF-8 page.
Decode treats the input as plain text: it understands named and numeric entities alike (é, ’ and so on), while any tags stay exactly as typed and nothing in the input can run. A decoded becomes a non-breaking space, not a regular one. Two more traps: encoding text that is already encoded turns & into &, which then shows on screen as & rather than &, and the HTML parser does not decode entities inside a script element, so write plain characters in JSON-LD.
