Generate placeholder text for mockups.
This generator produces Lorem Ipsum placeholder text for wireframes, mockups and template testing. It draws random words from the familiar "lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" passage and strings them into paragraphs, sentences or a plain run of words. Because the words are picked at random each time, the text does not always open with "Lorem ipsum". It runs in your browser.
Each sentence holds 8 to 17 words, starts with a capital letter and ends with a period; there are no commas or other punctuation. In Paragraphs mode each paragraph gets 4 to 7 of those sentences, separated by a blank line. Sentences mode returns the requested number of sentences in one block, and Words mode returns lowercase words with no punctuation at all. The output is plain text, so you will need to add <p> tags yourself if you paste into raw HTML. The count is held between 1 and 20: a blank or invalid entry is treated as 1, anything higher is cut to 20, and the box is updated to show the number used, which also caps Words mode at 20 words.
The real risk with placeholder text is that it ships. Before launch, search the site and its templates for "lorem" and "ipsum", and keep staging copies behind a password rather than relying on robots.txt, so unfinished pages never end up in search results. Pages full of filler give visitors and search engines nothing useful.
